ELWOOD, Ind.  (Dec. 5, 2022)  The 2022 Red Gold Run to Crush Hunger fund-raising event set a record of $75,987.70 to benefit families needing the services of two area food banks. The run held October 22nd in Elwood, IN was part of Red Gold’s ‘Crush Hunger Saturday’ benefiting the Second Harvest Food Bank and the Morrisett Center Food Pantry. A check presentation to the food banks was held on December 2nd.

This year offered a Virtual Race option for donations to a 10K, 5K and one-mile family walk. The live running event drew a crowd of 823 participants from 91 different cities and seventeen states, along with spectators and festival goers who came to sample delicious food and cheer on the participants.

“As a family-owned and operated company, our hearts are with the families in Indiana who need assistance in feeding their own families in the midst of the holiday season,” says Colt Reichart, Senior Director of Marketing at Red Gold. “Many thanks to those who donated to this worthy cause. You should share in our celebration of this extraordinary event in our community.”

Red Gold’s Crush Hunger Saturday is held each October and is a family friendly day of fun which includes the Annual Run to Crush Hunger, Colts Blue Saturday, Indiana Craft Beer and Wine Garden, vendor booths and live music entertainment. Beautiful weather during this year’s celebration boosted attendance significantly.

“Our appreciation goes out to all of our 2022 participants, volunteers, vendors, and of course our sponsors as this event would not be possible without the help from our community.” said Emily Ault, Race Director. Each race participant’s entry provides roughly 120 meals to families affected by food insecurity in Central Indiana. “We are proud of the continued growth and success of the race each year. As the race grows and our donation hit a new record, we are encouraged by the mission of crushing hunger in our communities,” said Ault.

Special thanks go out to Elwood Mayor Todd Jones, Elwood Economic and Community Development Director Christy Clark, Elwood Police Department, Elwood Fire Department, Elwood Street Department, and several other city services for all their efforts in making this day possible!
