ELWOOD, Ind. (September 28, 2017) – In response to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, Red Gold and its employees donated $20,529 toward relief and recovery efforts in Texas. Red Gold employees company-wide, at all six locations, donated $10,529 for Hurricane Harvey relief and their contributions, up to $10,000, were matched dollar-for-dollar by Red Gold.

Red Gold chose to send the donation through the local Salvation Army. “We will earmark the entire $20,259.00 for direct Harvey relief,” said Major Mike Wolfe, Madison County Salvation Army Corps Officer. “This is the largest cash contribution we’ve received from this area for Harvey,” said Major Wolfe. The Salvation Army has a network of trained disaster staff and volunteers that have been deployed to affected areas to provide food, hydration, cleanup kits, hygiene supplies, and emotional and spiritual care for responders and survivors. He explained that sending cash over goods (clothing, food or merchandise) is the absolute best way to benefit Harvey relief, unless a special request has been made for specific items. “Sending cash to be used for direct purchases in the affected area rebuilds the damaged economy by giving victims cash to spend on what they need while also supporting the local businesses”

Red Gold, a family-owned business, was founded with the mission of helping to supply food for the troops in 1942. Today, four generations later, Red Gold and its employees are continuing its unwavering commitment to caring for communities in need, especially in the time of tragedy. “I told our employees that I would match their donations up to $10,000 and the Red Gold employees always like a challenge,” said Brian Reichart, President and CEO. “I am very proud of them and their generosity.”

Donations to the Salvation Army can be made online, by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769) or texting STORM to 51555.
