ELWOOD, Ind. (September 27, 2017) – Red Gold is excited to announce the date of its annual Crush Hunger Saturday that will take place on Saturday, October 14th, in downtown Elwood. The three-part event includes the 6th Annual Run to Crush Hunger, 32nd Annual Red Gold Chili Cook-Off and Colts Blue Saturday. For the sixth year in a row, the Run to Crush Hunger unites local communities to promote healthy and active lifestyles, while fighting hunger in Central Indiana by giving back to local area food banks.
The Red Gold Run to Crush Hunger starts at 9 a.m. at the St. Joseph Center in downtown Elwood and features a 10K run, 5k run/walk and a 1-mile family walk. The race route tours some of Elwood’s most historical landmarks, homes and ends at the Red Gold Chili Cook-Off. Following the race, Red Gold invites participants and the community to enjoy the Chili Cook-Off, where people can taste chili, shop at craft vendors and enjoy beverages at the craft beer and wine garden. “There is something fun for everyone,” said Tim Ingle, VP of Human Resources at Red Gold, who encourages families, friends and neighbors regardless of their appetite to walk, run or simply have a bowl of chili on a beautiful autumn day. Families can also enjoy entertainment from the Indianapolis Colts-in-Motion with mascot, Blue, the Colts Cheerleaders, Pacers Fan Van and Red Gold Pro Fisherman Todd Hollowell.
Since the race’s inception in 2012, more than $160,000 has been donated in the effort to fight hunger in Hoosier communities. “We are proud of the continued growth and success of the race each year. As the race grows and registration numbers hit an all-time record, we are encouraged by the mission of crushing hunger in our communities,” said Kelsi Fullenkamp, Race Director for Red Gold. Each race participant’s entry will provide roughly 120 meals to families affected by food insecurity in Central Indiana.
